Prior to this fix, if the principal field contains a email "phrase" the phrase part of the email was not removed.
Example:
David Spence
In previous releases, it was always assumed that the principal field was always a Notes Name.
Customers are now using the principal field in 3rd party application and are using email addresses with a phrase.
With this fix, if the "<" and ">" characters are detected in the principal field, then the email address in the brackets will be extracted and used.
This fix was implemented in V4.02
