Configuration for a Global Policy

NOTE: Before you begin the implementation process, please check to see if you have the appropriate ADM file (Administrative Template File) downloaded. If not, please visit this link and download the file relevant to the Outlook version used by your organization.

1. On your keyboard, select both the Windows key + R key at the same time. Doing this should result in the Run window appearing on the bottom left of your screen - insert the text gpedit.msc and hit OK. This should result in the Local Group Policy Editor window appearing.

2. Once the window has loaded, expand User Configuration and right click on Administrative Templates > Select the Add/Remove Templates option.

3. When the Add/Remove Templates window has appeared, select Add and go to the folder where you have stored the ADM file in.

4. Once this has been actioned and is inserted successfully within the Administrative Templates, there will be an option for Microsoft Outlook - go ahead and select this option.

5. Then click on the drop-down arrows for Microsoft Outlook > Outlook Options > Mail format and then select International Options.

6. On the right-hand side, double-click Encoding for outgoing messages. This will then result in the Encoding for outgoing messages window appearing which you are then going to select Enabled.

7. On the Options tab for the Use this encoding for outgoing messages list, select the Unicode (UTF-8) option. Once this has been selected, click OK to save any changes made.
